Update for 2017 New Zealand Grads enrolling in Winter/Spring 2018 Have a prospective student-athlete from New Zealand enrolling mid-year? In order to graduate high school, students from New Zealand sit for leaving examinations in November/December of each year. The release date for the 2017 New Zealand Record of Achievement (NZRoA) is scheduled for Tuesday January 16, 2018 (NZ Time). The NZRoA is, for all intents and purposes, the final high school transcript for New Zealand students. We have identified the population of PSAs whose academic and/or amateurism eligibility is pending these 2017 results and plan to email instructions to them (when available from the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA)) on how to go about requesting their results. Given the timing challenges, please keep an eye out for an upcoming portal announcement with more information and guidance on how students can request their results be sent to the NCAA Eligibility Center.
Mid-Year Enrollees To ensure mid-year enrollee certifications are completed in a timely manner, please encourage prospective student-athletes to provide all test scores and transcripts from all high schools attended as soon as possible once they have graduated.
As a reminder, cases will be “Ready-to-Process-Final” once a final official transcript with proof of graduation is received. Should a high school be unable to notate proof of graduation on the final transcript of a mid-year graduate, the high school may provide verification of the date of graduation in letter format. Proof of graduation by letter must be on school letterhead and signed by a high school administrator. Individual letters for each student are required and should include the actual date (month/day/year) the student met graduation requirements. High schools may submit letters directly to the NCAA Eligibility Center electronically at ec-processing@ncaa.org or by fax at 317-968-5100. Click here for additional information.
New Resource: International Best Practices We often receive questions from domestic high schools that need guidance assisting students who have transferred to their school after beginning high school outside of the United States. Click here for a resource you can provide should you encounter this situation. As a reminder, students interested in Division I who are coming from a country with a January-to-December academic calender must complete their core course requirements within eight semesters of their original ninth grade start date. Additionally, DI students who have completed courses in both the U.S. and outside the U.S. are subject to the 10/7 progression.
Updated Policy: Academic Certification Policy "Core Course Title Usage" A few updates have been made to the "Core Course Title Usage Guide." For those of you not familiar with this guide, we encourage you to use it to better understand how courses are evaluated during the academic certification process. The minor changes this year include the following: Page 5 – General/Specific course title – the “general” portion of the course title more clearly defined Page 11 – Common Specific Course Designations table updated Page 18 – ‘AP Comp Science = AP Comp Science A’ added to the ‘Math’ section Page 21 – ‘Common Core (CCSS)’ added to Tier 1 and ‘Bridge To…’ added to the Basement Tier
The updated quick reference guide is available on the Membership Portal Resources page under Policies, Processes, Service Standards. (Click here to view.)
