Did You Know?

  • On average, student-athletes comprise 26% of the student body at Division III institutions. This percentage ranges from 1.4% to more than 82%.
  • 63% of former Division III student-athletes held a leadership position in a club or organization, as compared to 38% of nonathletes.
  • Former Division III student-athletes earned a postgraduate degree (41%) at a higher rate than their nonathlete peers (37%)
  • Division III is home to more than 195,000 student-athletes -- the most in any division -- who can earn the opportunity to compete in 28 national championships.

Special Olympics

By the Numbers

  • More than 2,000 Division III student-athletes were involved in a Special Olympics event during the 2022-23 year.
  • Over 7,100 hours were dedicated to Special Olympics events by Division III student-athletes during the year.
  • Collectively, Division III membership raised more than $32,000 for various Special Olympics programs across the country.
