CONNECTED INSIGHTS QUARTERLY UPDATE
AUGUST 2025

Name Change

We have renamed of our quarterly update to "Connected Insights" – to reinforce our commitment to highlight the division’s initiatives and programs that promote understanding, strengthen our culture of belonging, and foster respect among our membership.

Inside Perspective

We asked Stephanie Johnson, recently named athletics director at Goucher College,  a few questions.

What prepared you for this new leadership position? Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to participate in various professional development opportunities.  I also am very lucky to have mentors who didn’t just push me to improve—they challenged me to think more critically and to view the bigger picture.

As you lead a department, what do you want to emphasize to provide a quality student-athlete experience? I will always emphasize equity and love. To provide a quality student-athlete experience, we have to lead with love and provide equitable opportunities to everyone.

Registration will open in September. If you have any questions, reach out to inclusion@ncaa.org.

Sickle Cell

Institutions are required to confirm the sickle cell trait status of student-athletes before participation in intercollegiate athletics. This educational column contains questions and answers designed to assist the membership in understanding the application of the sickle cell solubility test legislation.
