New NCAA Account Type Available
Required for Prospective International Student-Athletes Enrolling in Division III, Starting 2023-24 |
During the 2022 NCAA Convention, Division III membership adopted legislative proposal 2022-2. This proposal requires an amateurism-only certification by the Eligibility Center for prospective international student-athletes (first time enrollees and transfers) initially enrolling on or after Aug. 1, 2023, at an NCAA Division III school. |
| To support this legislation and meet the needs of our Division III member schools, the Eligibility Center has introduced a new account type for student-athletes impacted by this change. The new Amateurism-Only Certification account is now available as an option for college-bound student-athletes now registering at eligibilitycenter.org. |

In addition to Division III college-bound student-athletes, an Amateurism-Only Certification account may also be the best option for certain student-athletes transferring from a two- or four-year school to a Division I or II school.
In order to provide clarity, the Certification account has been renamed the Academic and Amateurism Certification account. This account continues to provide both academic and amateurism certifications and continues to be required for all college-bound student-athletes being recruited by Division I or II schools. (The free Profile Page account continues to be available as well.)
While the process for NCAA member schools requesting an amateurism-only certification is the same as historically used for the Certification account (adding a student to your school's IRL), it’s important to understand when student-athletes should select this account. In June, the Eligibility Center hosted a Regional Rules session that included overview on the policies, processes and requirements for the new Amateurism-Only Certification account. Membership Portal RefreshIn response to membership feedback and in conjunction with the release of the new Amateurism-Only Certification account, the Eligibility Center has made updates to members' view of student-athletes information within the Membership Portal. Updates include:
-
Account-type information displayed in the same column as the enrollment period (including if a student has a Profile Page).
-
International old-model columns for Division I and Division II added.
-
Waiver columns combined with the Academic Decision column.
Please take a few minutes to review these updates in the Membership Portal. If you have any questions, please contact Customer Service at 877-544-2950. |

October 1: Requesting Final Amateurism for Midyear EnrolleesStarting October 1, students initially enrolling in the winter/spring 2023 term can request final amateurism certification via their Eligibility Center account. Before making this request, students must verify their graduation and enrollment date, make relevant updates to their sports participation questionnaire, and either pay the registration fee or receive a fee waiver from their high school. (As a reminder, the EC launched a new fee waiver option for international students on September 1.) To ensure your recruit's final amateurism certification request is processed in a timely manner, please encourage students to review and respond to any newly assigned amateurism tasks in their EC account. |
