The NCAA Division III staff has created this bi-weekly communication for the Division III membership to provide up-to-date communications on recent Division III governance meeting discussions and outcomes. Please share this communication with your campus and conference colleagues.

Financial and Risk Management Working Group, Dec. 4
Financial analysis – third party vendor. The working group prepared for three interviews to select an outside vendor to conduct a financial analysis of the division.

Championships Committee, Dec. 12
Budget enhancements. The committee reviewed the survey results and agreed that during its February meeting, the committee will review models and associated budget implications which include the following: 
  • Increasing per diems.                                  
  • Expanding the football championship bracket.
  • Condensing Pools B and C as one collection of at-large selections.
  • Retaining legislation capping team sport championship brackets at 64 teams (exclusive of football).
  • Retaining the principle that the length of championship should not exceed three weeks (exclusive of football).
It also will continue to discuss the additional flights concept.

Selection criteria database. The committee reviewed and provided edits to a draft FAQ. Click here for the FAQ and an educational webinar held this fall for sport committee chairs.  

Men’s ice hockey. The committee is recommending the Management Council expand the men’s ice hockey bracket to 13 effective with the 2024 season. The Management Council will consider this recommendation during its Jan. meeting.

Convention Planning Subcommittee, Dec. 12
2024 Convention sessions. The subcommittee reviewed the final schedules and session agendas. It also provided feedback on the membership discussion topics selected for the Issues Forum. Click here for the 2024 Convention resource webpage.

Athletic Trainer Working Group, Dec. 15
Survey results.  The working group reviewed and provided feedback on an executive summary of the survey results it sent to Division III athletic trainers and directors of athletics this fall. The working group also finalized its presentation and discussion topics for the 2024 Convention Issues Forum. Click here for an executive summary of the survey.

NEW: Practice Start Date Calculator. The Division III practice start date calculator has been refreshed and is ready to help you plan the first permissible practice dates for your fall sports during the 2024-25 academic year.  When using the calculator, please make sure to choose the correct sport, segment and first day of classes for the fall term to ensure that the date you are given is accurate.  More information on calculating the first permissible practice date for football can be found in Bylaw 17. 11.3.1 and for fall sports other than football in Bylaw 17.02.12.2.
