Recent Governance Meetings - Key Discussions and Outcomes.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Subcommittee, Sept. 29 Purpose. During their summer meetings, the councils approved a recommendation to create a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Subcommittee with the sunsetting of two Division III Working Groups – the Diversity and Inclusion and the LGBTQIA Working Group. The subcommittee aims to ensure Division III is safe for, inclusive of and welcoming for everyone. To that end, the subcommittee strives to increase engagement, education and understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues by examining current resources, areas of unmet need, and identifying programmatic, resource and recognition opportunities.
State legislation. The subcommittee received an update on the current landscape regarding state legislation restricting diversity, equity, and inclusion programming and the prohibition of transgender student-athlete participation.
Association-wide committee. It also was informed of pending action by the Division III Management Council, at the request of the Board of Governors, to create one Association-wide diversity, equity, and inclusion committee to replace the Board of Governors Committee to Promote Cultural Diversity and Equity, the Committee on Women’s Athletics, the Gender Equity Task Force, and the Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee.
