DIVERSITY & INCLUSION QUARTERLY UPDATE
MAY 2023

Inside Perspective

We asked Sarah Otey, the commissioner of the Ohio Athletic Conference, a few questions.

What does it mean for you professionally to be the first female commissioner of the OAC?  I was incredibly fortunate to grow up in a situation where I have never felt like there were doors entirely closed to me because of my gender.  But, I have come to realize that not everyone has lived with that same privilege and its important for me to embrace the importance of being the first female commissioner.

What is your Division III elevator pitch?  Division III gave me an avenue to participate, pursue a demanding course of study and engage in the campus community.  There is no chance I would have the work ethic, leadership skills or confidence I have today had I not been a Division III student-athlete.
