Recent Governance Meetings - Key Discussions and Outcomes.
Athletic Trainer Working Group, Feb. 22 Convention feedback. The working group examined feedback received during the Issues Forum roundtable discussions as well as feedback from a working group member’s engagement with the Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at the convention. The working group will divide into three subgroups to further examine and develop recommendations in the three primary areas of focus identified by the working group: workload, work-life balance, and communication and culture.
LGBTQIA+ Working Group, Feb. 22 LGBTQ of the Year recognition program. The working group discussed this year’s LGBTQ of the Year. The 2024 LGBTQ of the Year Awards nomination application period is now open. For the award criteria, click here, and visit the NCAA Program Hub to submit nominations until June 1.
LGBTQ OneTeam program. The working group continued to discuss next steps needed to update the OneTeam program inclusive of offering an-person facilitator training.
Management Council, Feb. 22 Strategic priorities. The council identified its key issues and strategic priorities for 2024.
Membership Committee, Feb. 26 and 29 Review of new member applications. The committee approved Johnson & Wales University – Charlotte, Mayville State University, and Regent University for the Exploratory Year. The committee also approved Penn State – Brandywine for Provisional Membership.
Educational initiatives. The committee discussed a potential recommendation to consider funding of a livestream opportunity for Division III sessions at the NCAA Regional Rules Seminar.
Athletics Consortiums review. The committee began a review of the athletics consortium legislation to ensure it aligns with the current and future landscape of higher education.
Review of the Division III new member process. The committee continued its review of the new member process and is considering legislative and policy concepts to forward to the Division III Management Council.
Management and Presidents Councils, March 1 Division III financial review. In a joint meeting, the councils received an update from Deloitte in regard to its review of the division’s finances
Upcoming Meetings and Anticipated Discussions.
FAR Advisory Group, March 11 Review of Division III transfer legislation. The Advisory Group will engage in the broader review of Division III transfer legislation. The faculty voice is imperative as the division considers potential changes to student-athlete transfer legislation.
Financial and Risk Management Working Group, March 14 Prioritization workshop. The working group will continue its work with Deloitte regarding the review of the division’s finances.
Convention Planning Subcommittee, March 15 Convention. The subcommittee will review membership feedback related to the convention and begin to discuss plans for the 2025 convention that will take place in Nashville, TN.
Subcommittee for Legislative Relief, March 15 The subcommittee will review graduate and post-baccalaureate student participation and current transfer regulations.
Reminders
Division III Week. The annual Division III Week will be held April 1-7, 2024. Division III Week is a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with the division to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community. During the week, every Division III school and conference office is encouraged to conduct a type of outreach activity that falls into one of three categories: academic accomplishment; athletic experience; or leadership/community service/campus involvement.
