Early Graduates: Time to Request Final Amateurism Certification

Do you have students graduating this December? Student-athletes enrolling for the first time at an NCAA Division I or II school starting in winter/spring 2023 were be able to request their final amateurism certification starting October 1. To request final amateurism, your student must log in to their Eligibility Center account and complete the "Request Final Amateurism Certification" task.
Students must have paid their registration fee or been approved for a fee waiver in order to request their final amateurism certification.

New and Updated!
2022-23 Resources Available

Several resources have been updated for the 2022-23 season. The following updated resources are now available:
  • Initial-Eligibility Flyer (domestic).
  • International Initial-Eligibility Flyer.
  • Division I Academic Requirements Flyer.
  • Division II Academic Requirements Flyer.
DIII Amateurism Flyer
In addition to these updated items, a new resource has been added to complement the new Eligibility Center account type announced last month. The Division III Amateurism flyer helps international student-athletes planning to enroll at an NCAA Division III school during the 2023-24 academic year understand what they must do to be certified to compete when they reach campus.

These resources and more can be located on the High School Portal's Resources tab. Be sure to share with students, as applicable to their divisional interest and situation. Thank you for all you do to support your student-athletes!

School Presentation Resources

When discussing options for students after graduation, many schools incorporate informational meetings about playing college sports during their school’s “College Nights” or other events throughout the year. The Eligibility Center can assist with these events.

To request assistance, begin by submitting our Presentation Inquiry Form. Be sure to provide us with as much detail as possible. We will respond to your request within five to 10 business days with next steps, with assistance in one of two ways:


Presentation Resources

We have prepared presentation resources to assist with these events and empower counselors, coaches and other administrators to give a detailed presentation about meeting academic and amateurism requirements. This includes the updated version of the initial-eligibility PowerPoint presentation for the 2022-23 academic year.
Speaker Presentations
Some schools invite speakers who are experts in college sports eligibility to assist with these presentations. Although due to travel considerations and the volume and range of speaking requests received the NCAA is unable to send staff members to most events, we may still be able to assist. If a counselor is not comfortable giving their own presentation, and our staff is not available for an in-person or virtual presentation, we will do our best to connect them with an NCAA member school in their area that has a compliance officer available to present at their event. If a staff member at a local NCAA school is unavailable, we will work with the counselor to ensure access to available materials.

The Eligibility Center will be hosting two webinars in December on initial-eligibility requirements. Mark your calendars now for these valuable, live, interactive events! Watch your inbox in the coming days for registration and information you can share with your colleagues (December 7) and student-athletes (December 14) for these events.

Initial-Eligibility for High School Administrators

  • Wednesday, December 7.
  • 3:30-4:30 p.m. Eastern time.
For high school administrators, counselors and coaches. A must-attend for those new to their roles! Will include a live Q&A session with Eligibility Center staff.

Initial-Eligibility for High School Student-Athletes

  • Wednesday, December 14.
  • 6-7 p.m. Eastern time.
For eighth graders/high school student-athletes and their families/advocates. Will include a live Q&A session with Eligibility Center staff.
Guide to International Academic Standards for Athletics Eligibility

International Guide:
Quarterly Update

The Guide to International Academic Standards for Athletics Eligibility has been updated. This quarter's updates include changes to these countries:
  • Australia (South Australia)—Approved course titles added.
  • European Baccalaureate—Grading scale updated.
  • France—Approved science added.
  • International Baccalaureate—Approved course titles added.
  • Spain—Grading scale added.
  • United Kingdom—Approved course title added.

Sleep and Wellness for Athletes

Sleep matters for athletes, whether high school or collegiate athletes. Poor sleep is associated with decreased athletic and academic performance, may increase injury risk, delay recovery time and may increase risk for mental health symptoms.
